The celebrations are under way!
We launched our 20th anniversary year with a two-day showpiece event at the iconic London Transport Museum in Covent Garden on 3rd and 4th June 2025. You can read our CEO’s recap of the event here.
More events are set to follow across our Regional Hubs throughout the year, so keep an eye on our events calendar.
Travel back in time
Our new interactive timeline tells the story of Women in Transport, from the early days of WTS London to the thriving community it is today.
We’ve called the timeline ‘Hi Vis’, in recognition of all the work done to raise the visibility of women across our sector.
Share your stories
As part of our celebrations, we’re asking our members and volunteers to share your stories of progress and empowerment over the past 20 years.
Write us a note or a piece for our blog, or leave us a video or voice message, and we’ll do the rest!
“I’ve been in the industry now for almost 23 years. I think the representation of women has really changed in that time, and Women in Transport plays a huge part in that.
It’s a brilliant industry to work in as a woman, but I think actually at the moment that’s still not widely recognised. And I think the work that Women in Transport have achieved is superb, and I really look forward to seeing how this starts to pick up pace.”
“As a member of the Diversity & Inclusion Bus group at Women in Transport, I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of a community of like-minded individuals who not only share a passion for making buses more accessible, but are also committed to building a more equitable industry. There’s still a lot to do, and the work can be challenging, but having the support, encouragement, and shared wisdom of this group makes it all feel more possible, and far more rewarding.
To any young women starting out in transport, or thinking about a career in the sector: don’t hesitate to lean on these brilliant networks. There’s so much strength, inspiration, and opportunity to be found in community. This is a shared journey, and I’m genuinely excited to see what we’ll achieve together over the next 20 years.”
“Wow, huge congratulations to all who have been part of this journey. I was delighted to be one of the founding members, led by the brilliant Valerie Todd as Chair. I can’t believe that was 20 years ago!
There was such a huge need to ensure women were properly represented at all levels in transport, and saw it as a viable career option. The work goes on of course, but much progress has been made. Well done to all who are continuing this work, led by the brilliant Sonya Byers. ”
