Welcome to the Women in Transport North West Hub
We’re a vibrant, inclusive community for women in transport and their allies of all genders across the Northwest of England.
Launched in January 2023 with the invaluable support of Taylor Woodrow, our hub is here to inspire connection, learning and progress.
Joanna Hill, Women in Transport’s Northwest Regional Lead, explains:
“Our vision is to create a supportive space where women in transport and their allies can network, learn and celebrate their successes. Together, we’ll share experiences, remove barriers and promote best practices in a welcoming, non-judgemental environment.”

What we offer
When you join Women in Transport, you’re not just gaining access to professional development resources and a platform to shape the future of transport – you’re becoming part of a movement that’s driving real change in our industry from the ground up.
If that sounds a little grand, think of it this way: you’ll be part of a really lovely community of people who come together to share experiences, learn and grow. It’s about connection, empowerment and making a difference on a local level.
Our vision
The North West Hub unites members of every gender and background through an exciting calendar of virtual and in-person events tailored for the region. These events compliment the broader Women in Transport offerings, expanding the network’s reach and creating meaningful connections. Many events are open to non-members as we aim to grow our community in the region.
Looking ahead, we’re partnering with regional businesses to identify and address barriers to equitable workplaces. Through courageous conversations and innovative initiatives, we want to raise organisational standards, promoting inclusivity to create a transport sector where everyone can thrive.
Join us as we shape the future of transport in the North West – together!

Our mission is to support women in the sector, empowering them to thrive in both their professional and personal lives while advancing their representation in the industry. We believe that by working together, we can promote a diverse and dynamic transport workforce that powers UK growth.
Celebrating our 20th anniversary in 2025, we’re proud to expand our reach in the Northwest with a team of passionate volunteers. Through a mix of engaging events and collaboration with like-minding organisations such as Tiger Trailers, Kier Transportation, Jacobs, AECOM, Pell Frischmann, and Gravitas Recruitment, we’re building a thriving regional community that aligns with our mission and values.

Our North West Regional Lead – Joanna Hill
I’ve been the North West Regional Lead for Women in Transport since January 2023, bringing a little bit of experience and loads of passion to the role. I have over 12 years in communications and engagement and four in the transport industry, and I’m driven by creating connections that empower individuals to thrive in both their personal and professional lives.
Born and raised in Leyland, Lancashire, I am proud to be from the North West. I’m particularly drawn to its rich industrial heritage and the fact that it’s home to many firsts for the transport industry; the first motorway, the first purpose build canal, the first bus service and the world’s first passenger railway. Having lived, studied and worked across the region – including time in Cumbria, Chorley and Rochdale – I’m a proud advocate for the values and aspirations of my community and the opportunities on offer here for its young people.
I joined Women in Transport back in 2022 in search of my ‘tribe’ and quickly found a sense of purpose and belonging. I hadn’t been in transport for long and was finding it hard to find my feet. Since then, I’ve embraced all the opportunities it has thrown my way to help drive change from writing a white paper and speaking at events to completing a leadership course. The latter helped me to gain a promotion in my career.
What I love most about Women in Transport is how supportive and collaborative everyone is. I’ve never experienced an organisation quite like it. Our mission – to support and celebrate each other while advocating for greater representation and gender equity in the industry – is woven into every meeting, event and interaction.
In the past 18 months, the North West Hub has become a thriving community that brings people together at every stage of their career, from newcomers to industry leaders, united by shared values of inclusion, equity and respect. And I could not have achieved that without the support of my team of dedicated and passionate volunteers. Together, we’re committed to fostering growth, breaking down barriers, and creating a transport sector where everyone can achieve their full potential.
Joining Women in Transport has been life-changing for me, and I would like to help others in the Northwest have a similar experience. It’s about making meaningful connections, empowering others and leaving a legacy of progress for future generations.
Working together
We couldn’t do what we do without the help of our partner organisations in the North West. These organisations help us to bring our events to life by hosting us at their offices, sponsoring catering or other important things, joining as corporate members and allowing their staff to attend our events, providing inspirational speakers, and generally spreading the word about our mission to empower women and advocate for greater representation.
